Getting Cleared to Volunteer

Volunteer screening is managed directly by the School District of Manatee County, not the PTO — but every Harvey volunteer needs to complete it before helping in classrooms, at events, or on field trips. There are two clearance levels, depending on how you'll be volunteering.

🟢

Level I Clearance

Required for ALL volunteers.

Volunteers with a Level I Clearance who interact with students must be supervised by a staff member — for example, classroom events, the cafeteria, or the media center.

Complete a free, confidential application:

Application (English) Application (Spanish)

After applying, you'll get a confirmation email from donotreply@raptortech.com saying it's under review. Approved applications get an email titled "Volunteer Approval Application"; denied applications get one titled "Volunteer Application Denied."

🔵

Level II Clearance

Required for volunteers interacting with students UNSUPERVISED — chaperoning field trips, one-to-one mentoring, tutoring, and overnight competitions. Any volunteer on campus who isn't supervised by a staff member must have Level II Clearance.

Start with the instructions:

Then complete the same Volunteer Application:

The Level II fingerprint screening has an application fee of approximately $90, paid by the volunteer. Results are monitored by the Office of Safety & Security for 5 years.

Effective April 13, 2026

Badge Fees

These charges apply to all badges produced for vendors, contractors, volunteers, and employees who secure their Level II Clearance through the School District of Manatee County. Vendors, contractors, and employees are required to wear/display their badges at all times — volunteer badges are optional.

Once you have your Level II Clearance approval notification, you'll need to make an appointment to receive your badge. Cash, check, and money order can't be accepted — badges are paid for via the RevTrak Payment Portal.

Background Screenings

The School District of Manatee County values student safety and security — prior conduct may disqualify a volunteer applicant. To meet the required search criteria of Section 943.04351, Florida Statutes, the District conducts a search of registration information against sexual predators and sexual offenders through the Dru Sjodin National Sexual Offender Public Website.

Accordingly, applicants will not be approved as school volunteers if they have:

  • Been convicted of, or had adjudication withheld for, any felony offense, at any time
  • Been convicted of, or had adjudication withheld for, any misdemeanor within the past three (3) years
  • Any pending criminal charges of a crime that would disqualify the applicant from employment with the School District of Manatee County

The School District of Manatee County is subject to laws governing the release of public records, including Florida Statutes Chapter 119.
